19th January 2006. It is my husband Olaf's birthday and our babies, Ryan and Joshua have been at home from the NICU for two days. My mother is working, my father has passed away. Olaf's parents are in Germany. We are managing our twin sons by ourselves on four hourly feedings.

 

At this time, they were fed at 6 am, 10 am, 2 pm, 6 pm, 10 pm, and 2 am. The babies were kept in separate moses baskets in our room ...

First Day at Home After 4 weeks in the NICU!!!!

It is every parent's wish to bond with their children from birth. However, after having no physical contact with my sons from birth to 5 days, I did not feel like a mother. Then having my sons in NICU meant, I lost control over my babies for four weeks. For 4 weeks, I had NO choice over whom looked after them, fed them, injected daily for various tests. Strangers doing a 'job'.

I wake up to a quiet house on the 25th December 2005. It is Christmas Day. The Chrtistmas tree is not set up. I am a practicing Buddhist and my husband Olaf, a Catholic.
