It is New Year's eve in 2005. Traditionally, up until this year, we have been with family celebrating until midnight at which point bottles of champagne are opend and the traditional Singhalese dish of coconut milk rice is cooked and eaten and dancing till dawn....This year, I had two babies in the NICU, born at 32 weeks. We spend the day in the NICU, and drive to Kent to have dinner with family. This time, there is no music. There are no celebrations. That evening, I remember bursting i...

I wake up to a quiet house on the 25th December 2005. It is Christmas Day. The Chrtistmas tree is not set up. I am a practicing Buddhist and my husband Olaf, a Catholic. We have always celebrated Chrtistmas by cooking the traditional British Christmas meal of roast turkey with all the trimmings with family and friends. I wake up on Friday, 21 December, 2005, at the maternity ward at Royal London Hospital, London, UK after giving birth to two babies 5 days ago. They are currently in the NICU at the Homerton General and I am getting ready to meet them since giving birth to them. I have had sleep since their birth. I also had the luxury of spending time just lying down. New Moms do not have this 'luxury' or the 'privileges' I ...

Wake up on Day 4 since giving birth to twin boys whom I have not seen since giving birth as they were transferred to a different hospital. Both babies are being tube fed with the little breast milk I keep expressing and then taken by my husband, Olaf to the NICU I am still yet to see. I had a emergency caesarian section, therefore, my Consultant, Dr Emeka Okaro was not happy for me to travel to a hospital 15 minutes...

I have given birth to identical twin boys at 32 weeks gestation a day ago, on Saturday, 17th December 2005 via emergency caesarian section.
